Federal Framework

Online gambling in the US is governed by a patchwork of federal and state laws:

UIGEA (2006) — Restricts payment processors from handling unlicensed gambling transactions. Does not make gambling itself illegal.
Wire Act (1961) — Restricts interstate sports wagering. Courts have limited its scope to sports betting only.
PASPA repeal (2018) — Supreme Court struck down the federal sports betting ban, allowing states to legalise sports wagering independently.
